My two weeks at MJH Accountants, by Sammy Singh

My name is Sammy, and I’m 20 years old.

As I am approaching the end of my AAT Level 4 studies I have realised that to help me secure employment in my chosen field I require some hands on experience.

Many of the accountancy firms I approached in the Preston area didn’t have any suitable training positions. MJH Accountants, however, offered me two weeks’ work experience.

At MJH I was involved in numerous tasks such as book-keeping, filing client information and getting to grips with the cloud-based accounting software Xero, which the company uses.

My biggest challenge was putting the knowledge I’ve been acquiring in the classroom into practice by applying it to the work I was asked to do. The team were extremely helpful and supportive, particularly when I needed clarification on anything. At MJH, I really felt like I was part of the team. If I could sum up my experience in one word it would be “fantastic”.

My work experience has reinforced my belief that accountancy is the right career path for me. If I continue to gain practical experience, I believe this will open up lots of opportunities for me and hopefully help me to secure an accountancy position in the not too distant future.
